Why IDP trades need their own calculator
IDP scoring is not just "add defensive players." Every league weights tackles, sacks, INTs, forced fumbles, and passes defended differently. Our IDP calculator is tuned for balanced IDP scoring (1 pt tackle, 4 pt sack, 6 pt INT/FR/FF bonuses, 2 pt pass-defended), which is the most common ruleset. If your league runs big-play scoring, add roughly 10–15% to sack-and-turnover producers.
The three IDP position tiers
- LB1s — three-down linebackers with 130+ tackle ceilings. The QB/WR-equivalent of IDP. Browse the LB rankings.
- Elite DLs — edge rushers with 15+ sack floors and interior disruptors. See the DL rankings.
- Box safeties — DBs with 30%+ box snap rate and coverage ability. See the DB rankings.
Rookie IDPs are cheaper than you think
First-year IDPs rarely produce top-24 numbers at their position. Only edge rushers with instant three-down roles justify early rookie pick investment. For most rookie IDPs, wait until midway through year one to buy at a discount once role and snap share are confirmed.
IDP trade workflows
The most common IDP trade is swapping an aging LB1 for a younger LB2 plus a rookie pick — the calculator will show this trade close to even, but the rebuild value is significant. Contenders should reverse the trade and pay a premium for the aging producer.
How this calculator works
Every player and rookie pick is assigned a numeric trade value on a 0–10,000 scale. Add assets to each side of the trade and we sum the totals, then score the deal by percentage gap: under 5% is even, 5–15% is a slight edge, 15–30% is a clear winner, and over 30% is lopsided. Values are tuned for IDP dynasty leagues.
What goes into a dynasty value
Dynasty values are not just last year's fantasy points. Each grade blends recent NFL production, age relative to positional aging curves, offensive role and target/carry share, quarterback and coaching context, contract status, and — for rookies — draft capital and college production profile. A 24-year-old wide receiver coming off a 1,200-yard season is priced differently than a 29-year-old with the same numbers, even though their past output is identical, because the younger player has three or four more prime seasons of expected production.
Format-specific tuning
IDP scoring rewards defensive playmakers. Off-ball linebackers with 130+ tackle upside anchor the top of the board, while pass-rushing edges and ball-hawk safeties fill in the WR1/RB1 equivalent tier. Rookie IDPs are heavily discounted until landing spot and role are clear.
Using the calculator in a real trade
Start by adding the player(s) you would send, then the player(s) or picks you would receive. The verdict is a guide, not a verdict — a "slight edge" against you can still be the right move if you are contending and receiving the more immediate producer. Conversely, an "even" deal that ships all your youth for aging veterans can quietly hurt a rebuild.
Common workflows:
- 2-for-1 upgrade — consolidate two mid-tier assets into one top-tier player; expect to give up 10–20% of raw value for the roster spot.
- Contender pushing all-in — swap future picks for a proven producer; check that the incoming player's window aligns with your window.
- Rebuild — trade older veterans for youth and rookie picks; a small "loss" on the calculator is fine when the age gap is 4+ years.

Frequently asked questions
What is an IDP dynasty trade calculator?
An IDP (Individual Defensive Player) dynasty trade calculator assigns values to defensive linemen, linebackers and defensive backs so you can fairly compare IDP-format trades.
Which IDP scoring does this use?
Values are tuned for big-play IDP scoring (tackle + assist + sack/INT bonuses). They still work as a strong reference for standard IDP and balanced formats.
Can I include rookie picks?
Yes — rookie draft picks are included with format-aware values so you can build mixed player + pick trades.
Do IDP values match offensive player values?
They are calibrated to be tradable against offensive players in leagues that mix them. Elite IDPs grade near mid-tier WR2/RB2 offensive assets.
How stable are IDP values?
LB values are the most stable (tackle-driven). DL sack production is volatile year-to-year, and DB values swing with defensive scheme changes.
