Box safeties are the DB1 tier
Look for safeties who line up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage on 30%+ of snaps. These are the highest-tackle DBs in the league and hold weekly starter value.
Big-play scoring changes the calculus
In big-play IDP formats, ball-hawking free safeties with 4+ INT ceilings gain a lot of value. Adjust these rankings up for your league's scoring settings.
FAQ
Why do safeties rank above corners?
Safeties see more tackle opportunities and split time between the box and coverage, giving them a higher and more consistent floor than boundary corners.
Are corners worth rostering in IDP?
Only elite ones or those forced into heavy volume on bad defenses. Most CBs are streamers, not season-long IDP holds.
How do I identify a breakout DB?
Box safeties with rising snap share and a new defensive coordinator are classic breakout candidates for IDP DB value.
